The otter is a marten specialized for the water hunt. He can stay under water for up to 8 minutes while diving 18 meters deep. The tail serves as a helm. As heavy it is on land, under water it is from lightning speed! The otter is nocturnal and has a good sense of smell. During the day it spends a lot of time grooming and playing games. In the 19th century it was hunted for its precious fur and consumed as a fast food. Also, the otter was considered as a fish predator and was almost eradicated. Today the stocks are stable again.
