The embrasures were used for defense against the Turks and to keep the them at bay. They are funnel shaped to the outside to increase the view. Inside, they built wooden beams to support the weapons. They were altered several times throughout history. The wall was also raised once, which can still be seen in the change of the wall thickness. The small rectangular openings were filled with beams and wooden planks to support the wall during its construction and later for defense purposes.
